Walsham 1 -4 GWFC A
The Champions started off with Tom
and Josh up front to get to the walsham defence, walsham took the
lead with a opportunist goal, which brought us to life, Elliot and
Tristan held it tight, with some really high tackles from the
opponents going un punished, my concerns on one of our boys picking
up an injury went against Walsham in a fair tackle there centre
forward could no longer take part in an enjoyable game, this seemed
to knock Walsham and Josh made it 26 for the season, after half time
the boys came alight, Charlie, Jack, Dan and Craig with neat passing
with Harry, Little Olly were tearing Walsham apart, with Will, Big
Olly, Robbie and Alex coming on through the game ,when we went to 3
3 4 the excellent football continued ,some of the best we have
played, Josh got numbers 27 & 28 then Craig with a 25 yard belter
finished off the scoring. Another great result, and another great
team performance

CHAMPIONS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mark's Report
The top two entertained the large
crowd with an excellent football match, it was a pleasure to watch,
Whitton was straight at GWFC and with Olly lilly, Tristan Moyes,
Harry Lawson marshalled by captain Elliot Ward held them at bay,
GWFC knowing a point would win them the league kept it tight in
midfield and Josh Cornish and Charlie Mitson up front with support
from Craig Jackson, Robbie Anderson, Jack Nicholson and Dan Winser
started creating chances, it was from a corner Whitton took the
lead, GWFC tried to get back on level terms but solid defending from
Whitton kept it at 1 nil until in the second half Josh Cornish hit
the equaliser, with Tom Daly, Will Carter and Alex Smith coming on
for tired legs, it was a great team performance that kept Whitton at
bay, then in the last minutes GWFC should have made it safe from a
corner but it was blazed over the bar then a one on one and Sam
Brereton made an incredible safe then an even better header off the
line by Olly Lilly clinched the title for GWFC, Thank you for
Whitton for giving us a great game and a big thank you to all at
GWFC back room staff for a team effort in winning the title .Mark
Mitson
and mine......
Cobras 1 Whitton 1
Josh's cool finish, a brilliant save from Sam and
Oli's injury time clearance off the line saw the boys pick up the point
that guarantees the title this season.
A tough match with a vastly improved Whitton side
made the title hard going but the boys dug deep in the second half to
force the point. It was a scrappy affair at times, quite physical and
with dissent from both on and off the field, a tough one for Martyn to
officiate.
We fell behind in the first half from a poorly
defended corner and Whitton had the marginally better of possession,
with chances fairly even.
The second half again saw Whitton threaten at times
but we held our nerve at the last and the title is sewn up

COBRAS 3 IPSWICH EXILES 1
A good run out in a friendly against an energetic
Ipswich side.
Charlie's early goal came amidst a burst of
opportunities that could have seen us 5 goals up in as many minutes,
instead we gave away a goal and were level.
The game was a strange but competitive one, with
both sides playing a high defensive line it got very compressed and at
times we failed to get the ball as wide to stretch the play out.
After being level at the break, Josh and Oli got
quick goals that put the result beyond doubt and although the Ipswich
side hit the bar late on, we had a host of chances and on another day
could have scored many more.

STOW FALCONS 1 COBRAS 5
Another great display in horrendously windy
conditions and on a very firm pitch at Stow.
Els won the loss and sensibly elected to play down
wind in the first half. Once again, the boys played the ball back to
front and used width sensibly, the backs joined in as they could and it
was no surprise when we established an early 2 goal lead, initially from
Jack's fierce drive.
Josh grabbed a hat-trick, including a very tidy
headed goal and the Els added a great free kick from long range. Although we conceded one in the second period, the victory always looked
well secure
Now for Walsham and the title opportunity
SUNDAY FEB 24TH 2008
The boys took one step nearer the perfect league
season on Sunday as they came from a goal down at half time to win a
tough match against CFC at home.
After conceding an early goal from a corner and
losing Ollie at the half to injury, the second half saw a great
fightback and only a late Bury goal kept the margin of victory down to
one.
Josh scored a tidy goal from
Sam's long clearance, Jack hammered in number 2 after good imterplay and
Will scored our third.
It was not as fluent at times
as last weeks performance, but with better width in the second half and a will to win
that shone, another good display.

COBRAS 3 SICKLESMERE 0
Some wonderfully flowing football marked a
comfortable home win against a much improved Sicklesmere side on Sunday.
With kick-off delayed by 30 minutes to allow some of
the overnight frost to clear, the boys played some lovely passing
football and could have been 2 or 3 goals up before Craig finally broke
the deadlock just before half time.
The second half got of t the best possible start with
Els side footing home from 20 yards after 10 passes literally played the
ball all around the park and Josh's late goal completed the win.
Some of the best football I've seen us play !

COBRAS 4 WALSHAM 2
Only the concession of 2 sloppy late goals dampened
and otherwise wonderful display at home to Walsham. Josh scored a
stunning hat-trick and Will added a superb header to give the boys a 4-0
lead before tiredness gave way to 2 poor goals.
In horrible cold conditions and with a strong wind,
the boys played great football at times to keep their 100 % league record
NEEDHAM MARKET 0 COBRAS 3
A typical top of the table clash, the game started very tight with
both teams giving nothing away but as the game progressed there was
only one team who looked like scoring,it was not until the 34th
minute that a 30 yard thunderbolt from Robbie(Steven Gerrard would
be proud of that one) that made it 1 nil at half time.Again we were
playing neat tight football through the middle and the defence was
so solid,Sam did not have to make a save in the second half,Dave
Ward changed the boys around when injuries or a game plan came into
action, and after constant pressure,a brilliant turn and shot from
the impressive Josh made it 2 nil, again Needham pressed but we
soaked up the pressure from midfield to defence and all there
attacks came to nothing, then a great piece of team play involving
Jack,Dan and Craig who swung in a beauty for our own Michael Owen to
head in off the post, that's Will Carter 3 nil, game over.
Sam was as solid as usual,Olly Lilly
,Ells,Tom,Big Olly and the outstanding Tristan were brilliant at the
back,Mr Versatile Craig down the Left read the game like a
book,Jack,Harry,Alex,Robbie and Dan were tireless and there hardwork
paid dividends by this win,Charlie and Josh took the game to Needham
and they could not match our grit and determination as a team
wanting to win Brilliant boys and well done Dave Ward
SUNDAY OCTOBER 28TH 2007
WHITTON 1 COBRAS 5
Josh scored his first hat-trick for Cobras as they
recovered from going unluckily behind early to win comfortably in
Ipswich.
In tough more wintry
conditions and on a lovely big field, the boys played some excellent
football, passing and moving well and despite Sam (yes Sam) missing a
late penalty, it was a thoroughly efficient performance
Losing an early goal was rarely a threat, and when
Josh levelled the scores on 15 it was the signal for the Cobras to
go from strength to strength. 2 more goals before half time gave the
boys a 3-1 lead, and the game was all but wrapped up 1 minute into the
second period when Charlie scored from close range. Alex's late goal
finished things off well..
With Sam rarely troubled
in goal, the back four of Els, Tris, Tom and Oli played solidly. Jack
(making his debut) Craig, Dan and the everywhere Robbie looked
excellent, and Josh and Charlie looked menacing every time they touched
the ball.
The second half introduction s
of Alex, who played brilliantly in right midfield, Will, who is gaining
fitness with every outing, and Ollie (rested for the most part after
picking up a knee injury) all added value, and it was great to see the
boys having options, and strength, from the bench.
COBRAS 4 - 0 STOW FALCONS
The boys started off at a lively pace
attacking from the start, several good chances were created by some
excellent football but the target was missed, Alex then scored a
good goal after some great team work, that's two weeks in a row now
Alex, we still pressed hard and Sam was not troubled at all. Charlie
was back after a 5 week absence and him and Josh were menacing up
front, the midfield 4 of Alex, Dan, Robbie and Craig are looking
stronger and stronger as a unit, playing lovely possession football.
At the back Elliot took over the captains role with Tristan , Oli
and Tom keeping the Stow forwards quiet, Tristan winning every thing
thrown at him. After the break the pressure was relentless and
chances went begging, then a brilliant one footed save by Sam and a
great sliding tackle by Elliot kept us ahead, the latter Elliot
picking up a thigh strain meaning him to play centre forward with
Josh and Robbie dropping back.
We were awarded a free kick which
Elliot struck a thunderbolt 2 nil, then a bit of class on the ball 3
nil, Elliot playing like a natural ,he then rounded it off with
another class drive 4 nil and a hat trick ball plus £20 from his dad
(me and Dave Moyes are your witnesses Ells).
Well done boys your pressure turned
into goals and you thoroughly deserved the win, Well played.
Dan and Robbie ran their hearts out in the centre and all of the
boys deserved this win for there 100% commitment.
CFC BURY
2 COBRAS 3, SUNDAY OCTOBER 14TH 2007
Two crisp second half strikes from Josh were sufficient to give Cobras a
come from behind win in a very competitive match at the Victory Ground
on Sunday. On a pitch that seemed too small for the age and size of both
teams (although the surface was quite excellent), Cobras won on spirit
an determination after going 2-1 down midway through the second half. At
2-1 Sam made a quite wonderful one handed save, reaching up with his
right hand after falling to his left. And it wasn't his only decent save
either, having blocked a penalty in the first half then palmed a free
kick away shortly after.
Alex had given Cobras a first half lead, thumping home from close range,
capping an excellent spell from right midfield where he quite literally
took his marker with him for the whole of the first half, creating space
and linking up well down the right flank.
Once again Robbie was honouring the old "every blade of grass" cliche
from midfield, using the ball more wisely with every game. Both Will and
Tristan, although a long way from 100% fit made good contributions, and
Craig once again looked menacing on the left, hindered by the lack of
width on the pitch rather than anything else. Harry made an encouraging
first start, linking up well on the right, and feeding Dan and Josh
whenever he could. Dan's pace and flicked headers (he wins more than his
fair share even against much taller players) were a constant source of
menace and although the defence struggled at times to play a high line
on such a short field, Els, Ollie, Tom and Oli showed glimpses of their
best when required
COBRAS 1 IPSWICH BLADES 4, SUNDAY OCTOBER 7TH 2007
Cobras played quite literally through the pain on Sunday and were
beaten by a late goal rush by a very good Ipswich side.
Will returned from a lengthy lay-off to bolster numbers to 10, and
Els played the last 40 minutes after returning from his sick bed.
Will had to call it a day eventually with 2 minutes left, Tom was
looking so exhausted the opposition's fans were calling for
treatment and Ollie had knee, ankle and thigh injuries by the end.
The boys were exhausted after a monumental effort.
The game started with Cobras on top but gradually the Ipswich side
took over the game, forcing 3 stunning saves from Sam including a
miraculous block with his left foot when he was going the other way.
Older readers will hopefully appreciate the comparison to Pat
Jennings at his best going two ways at once.
Els gave Cobras the lead in a very even second half, latching on to
Will's lovely through ball before finishing into the bottom left
hand corner of the goal. The goal came 12 minutes into the second
half and the boys looked like holding on until conceding 2 quick
goals with only 5 minutes remaining. As we threw caution to the wind
we conceded again, finishing the game literally out on our feet.
Individual performances were outstanding right across the team. Sam
simply gets better with every game and doesn't deserve the 4
against. He will play worse and keep a clean sheet such was his
performance. Tom and Oli at fullback looked as good as ever, pushing
forward with purpose and defending like pro's. Tristan had
another brilliant game, so good at the simple things you hardly
noticed him but breaking the play up brilliantly and defending like
a lion. Ollie had another super game too, dominant in the air, and
attracting his first career yellow card in the first half for a
challenge that looked more at home in the WWF than a football field.
Els and Will were really good up front, both causing problems
wherever they could despite being a long way from fully fit. Alex
and Josh linked in well, Josh in particular caused lots of threats
on goal and both worked well linking with the attacking full backs.
Final mention and huge credit must go to Dan and Robbie. Not only
were they at the centre of everything good we did, they covered like
professionals whenever their colleagues needed them. Every time Tom
or Oli went forward, there was one for them covering the defensive
responsibilities. giving the team shape, and taking responsibility.
Absolutely brilliant.
So, whilst we wish or opponents the very best in the next round, we
congratulate the boys on a performance of heart and determination
COBRAS 1 ELMSETT 1
Ollie's 4th quarter volley from Dan's wonderfully drilled corner was
enough to earn Cobras a 1-1 draw in a wonderfully entertaining
friendly on Sunday.
Our visitors came intent on playing attractive football and the
Cobras boys enjoyed the opportunity to get the ball down and play
against opponents who clearly wanted to do the same. With warm
conditions and the friendly status offering the opportunity to
stretch the game over 4 periods, the game was well contested, tight
and strong, but played in a very good spirit throughout.
Although short of several regulars, and with young Ben playing a
first class game stepping up from U11 level, the boys played
with great heart and spirit, even after going a goal down in the
third period from a good free kick.
The whole team played well, there were too many excellent moments to
name them all, 10 out of 10 all round !

Cobras 4 Moreton Hall A 1, Sunday Sept 16th 2007
Cobras extended their unbeaten run and only narrowly missed out on a
second consecutive clean sheet in their 4-1 home win over Moreton
Hall A
With Charlie missing, no Felix, Josh injured and Craig clearly
unwell, the boys were stretched but put in a brave and committed
performance. An early goal from Robbie was followed by Oli's long
range lob before half time.
Josh added a smart goal just after half time and then Els scored
from a free kick to put Cobras in a commanding position before a
late consolation goal narrowed the deficit.

Cobras 2 Ipswich Warriors 0, Sunday Sept 9th 2007
Cobras won a wonderfully entertaining opening league game with
second half goals from Tom and Craig. The score could have been much
higher, but for some poor luck and some brave goalkeeping from the
Ipswich keeper, who repeated the heroics of the 05/06 season against
us to keep the score down.
The whole side played a great game, Sam looked commanding in goal,
came for crosses and judged his box well. Oli L, Tom Ollie and Els
looked strong and effective at the back, and both full-backs pushed
on whenever they could. The midfield of Dan W, Tris, Robbie and
Craig were combative when needed, creative when they could be, and
Charlie and Josh caused no end of problems, particularly in the
first half when by rights we could have scored 4 or 5.
In the second half, Felix and Alex were added and got stuck in well.
Felix in particular was involved regularly and proved strong,
determined and courageous, often winning balls rated well below
50:50.
It was a competitive match, often difficult to control for the
referee who had to be strong with dissent. In essence though, this
was a tough committed match and would rate as one of the most
competitive matches ever. The communication between the players was
obvious and the will to win very evident.
Well done boys, a great start to the league campaign !
Cobras 2 CFC Bury B
2, Sunday Sept 2nd 2007
Cobras fought back from 2 goals down with 15 minutes left to
salvage a draw in a game they largely dominated. Dan W and
Craig scored the goals in our final pre-season match.

Gt Whelnetham 1-2 Cornard Dynamos.
The game set off at a
fast pace, and after about 10 mins Will's knee injury came
back so down to 10 but our opponents were very supporting
and let us have one of there players to make it 11 v 11.
Cornard scored 2 quick goals putting GWFC on the back foot,
but after half time the players settled and Josh got a
richly deserved goal. Cornard held well at the back and with
better finishing a draw would have been a fair result, the
defence of Dan Place, Ells, Big Ollie and Tom gave no space
for the lively front line, Little Ollie, Dan Winser and
Craig attacked well from midfield and with Josh and Charlie
plus one tried to get a equaliser but to no avail.

Cobras 0 St Johns 6, Sunday
May 20th 07
A heavy defeat but don't let the score-line fool you ! St Johns
look like worthy champions but the 10 man Cobras, with George in
goal and a whole host of missing players, played their hearts
out in warm conditions on Sunday.
The game was played in fine spirits throughout and whilst the
Ipswich boys dominated, Cobras defended like lions throughout,
and DC, playing on his own against a decent back four, ran them
really hard at times creating several opportunities.
George's handling and kicking was superb, Will and Dan P had
very good games at full back, even looking to get forward when
they could to support. Tristan was magic again, closing players
down and making himself big and hard to beat. Ollie had his
usual solid strong game, Mark reckoned he looked like JT
(probably John Terry but could be Justin Timberlake). The
midfield of Dan W on the left, Robbie (Everywhere) Charlie and
Alex worked incredibly hard and DC, although outnumbered 4-1
still created problems.
This was a real footballing lesson for us, not what we were
taught but what we learned from inside. We had the ball probably
20% of the time maximum but we made ourselves hard to beat,
solid in the tackle, quick to press and standing up and driving
players away from goal and into no danger areas. We have learned
in the last 2 games that its not always sensible to be Real
Madrid, sometimes you have to make yourselves a bit ugly for
your own good.
So, defeated and outnumbered but heads held high. Well done
boys, this is one report where you need read beyond the
scoreline.......Sunday

Cobras 5 Moreton Hall A 2
An enjoyable match with a mixed Cobras and Wanderers 11 as the
season and availability continues to bite, with Cobras coming
out well on top after a late surge.
Elliot (2), George, Charlie and Dan W scored the goals but it
was an all round team performance, with some of the best
defending, good keeping and all round teamwork we have seen for
some time.
Sam's command of his area and kicking were excellent throughout,
although he had little to do for long stretches and few saves to
make. Ollie was strong in the air as usual and organised the
back line well, Tristan played like a man possessed at times,
winning every challenge, nipping in ahead of players to break up
play and was ably supported by Will and Guy at left back after
Felix's early head injury. Dan P was at right back, a
position that suits his passing and ability to get forward
effectively. Playing into the wind during he second half, Cobras
were able to press the play and at times by playing a high line
and using off-sides, to use spoiling tactics effectively to
nullify the disadvantage of the conditions. Ugly at times but it
did a job and was a lesson learned in how to adapt and be
effective.
Robbie and George played their "every blade of grass" type game,
and it was great to see Dan W get a better run down the left
side, especially later in the game, where he was able to feed
off David, Guy and Will. Elliot gave us a rare glimpse of his
attacking ability with a role on the right side of midfield and
his pace created and capitalised for the first 2 goals.
Charlie's performance was outstanding and his best for a while.
Winning flicks, holding the ball up well and simple passing the
centrepiece of a really first class centre-forward's game. It
was significant how many times Charlie's touches got us in
behind the defence and a measure of how effective that type of
football can be when we play to Charlie's strengths and form.
Although this was a friendly fixture, tactically there was much
to be pleased about and with personal performances from Tris and
Charlie leading the way, it sets us up well for the difficult
fixture against St Johns.
Sunday April 29th 07
Lakenheath 8 Cobras 2
A great workout for the boys in the sunshine at Lakenheath.
Whilst our hosts were worthy winners, 8-2 didnt really do our
boys justice.
Charlie and Ollie scored the second half goals which restored
some balance to the score, and although the score-line will
reflect a heavy loss, the performance was far better.
Sam played well throughout, the back four of Felix, Tristan,
Ollie and Guy, plus Dan P for the second half, always looked
solid although busy, and most of Lakneheath's goals came in the
last 12 minutes as the boys tired in hot conditions
With a squad of 13 and Will nursing an ankle injury, the boys
were made to work hard, George, Dan W and particularly Robbie
ran tirelessly, and Oli had a fine game wide on right side.
Charlie and David worked hard up front , having more success
later in the game.
Great facilities and hospitality at Lakenheath, a really
enjoyable fixture

Nice facilities and great Weather at Lakenheath !

Quick team photo before the match
Walsham 2-2 Gt Whelnetham A.
The team were in a confident mood sitting in the changing rooms
and they did exactly what me and Dave asked them to do,they
started playing neat football from the kick off,and after
constant attacking pressure Charlie took his goal well, with a
great build up starting from DC,George and Alex, who had a
outstanding game. Then a Walsham counter attack 1-1,this was
against the run of play, from the kick off again we dominated the
midfield with countless attacks and with a bit of luck should
have gone in at half time with a comfortable lead.
Straight from the kick off the midfield of George ,Robbie,DanW
and Alex were creating chances for Charlie and DC with Elliott
and Dan P attacking from the back with Ollie and Tristan holding
the defence solid,we then scored a cracking team goal, but it was
harshly ruled offside, we then deservedly took the lead as
Charlie notched his second to put us ahead, again neat football
and hard resulted in the Walsham goal under barrage and when DC
scored game over,NO again a dubious offside cancelled out a 3-1
lead,Sam in goal made a brilliant one handed save to keep us
ahead and against the run of play Washam scored with 2 minutes
to go,how cruel football is,the team were outstanding ,George
shone down the side where all the girl spectators stood,he
really played his socks off,Ollie was back to his self with his
injuries hopefully behind him,Tristan as usually gave 110 % and
Dan P and Elliott were doing what we have asked all season and
that is attack from the back. Thanks to all the boys who have
re-signed for next season me and Dave appreciate you re-signing,and
thanks for the support from the parents, we have a 3 Tracy cheer
leaders singing from the terraces which was great to hear (not),
I think all the boys enjoyed playing under floodlights, they
certainly excelled Thank You
in blistering hot conditions the boys started
like the weather, and went 2 nil up through Robbie and Charlie,a
defensive lapse and they were back in the game, but our strong
midfield was creating many chances and George made it 3-1 at half
time, Felix, Guy, Dan and Tristan had a solid game at the back, Sam
had a great game until the Rape seed got the better of him, Ells,
Robbie, George and Dan W was supplying DC and Charlie with great
forward passes, with Will coming on then off with Knee trouble, James
injured are Reserve keeper Ollie stepped in between the posts and
was very dominant, Elmsett never give up and got back to 3-2 Robbie
made it 4-2 then Ells hit the post with a tremendous shot before
Elmsett scored to make a nail biting finish before DC did a great
solo effort to put the game where with all the effort put in
deserved to be ours
